Gold Coast Day 4

These cranes are everywhere.

Today was suppose to be a beach day but it is pretty overcast so we change it to a lazy day instead. We treated ourselves to eggs and bangers for breakfast….but not just ANY bangers “kanga bangas” – that’s right we ate kangaroo for breakfast.

It is very low in fat and if you can get your mind passed the fact that you’re eating kangaroo it really doesn’t taste all that much different from our breakfast sausages (but much lower in fat and made with real meat). We also tried “Bundaberg Beer” – we’ve seen it everywhere here (the name is like ‘rootbeer’ – there is no actual beer in either of them). The Bundaberg is ginger based and tastes like a strong Canada Dry… but with real ginger.

We did a little tour down the coast today and then checked out some of the shops. We were very careful about parking….and paying today! Also, I have to recant some of my prior post on the ‘meter maids’. It turns out they ARE the good guys (or gals). The meter maids used to feed expired parking meters so visitors to the beach didn’t get tickets. The meters have recently been replaced with coin or credit card operated machines that spit out a piece of paper that you put in your window – so the meter maids are essentially out of a job now (not that they got paid before….at least I don’t think so). So, I apologize to the Surfers Paradise Meter Maid Association and the fundraising they were doing for Breast Cancer….yah, my bad. We met up with the Canadian Team’s rugby coach (we have a rugby team?). We thought he was Canadian because he had a t-shirt that had a big Maple Leaf on it and said “I believe in the Leaf”…then we heard him talk. He is actually from New Zealand (where the Rugby World Cup is being held this year). We stopped at the Pacific Fair on the way home….no, it is not a carnival, it’s a shopping mall. A lot of shopping malls here are outdoor ones – even the big QVB downtown Sydney has open air entrances right off the street (i.e. no doors). Since they don’t have to worry about freezing weather or snow it works here. It is now evening and the thunderstorm we were forecasted to get this afternoon has arrived (very nice that it waited until we were home!).
