Gold Coast Day 3

We head into the greater downtown area of Brisbane today. Since this is our ‘downtime’ week we let the kids sleep in till 9. It took less than an hour to get to Brisbane but another ½ hr to find parking that was less than $52/day. It turns out it’s like any other big city downtown: lots of people, funny little streets and expensive parking. By the time we found the information booth we had missed the downtown tour -much to the kids delight I’m sure! We got our own map and started out to see the sites. Whether it’s the fact that we’ve reached our architectural/old building limit or maxxed out our walking shoes we decided to cut the tour short. Brisbane is a pretty city but most of the main city square and City Hall was under renovation (as it has been for the last 2 years and will be for the next year – obviously a complete reconstruction.

We did see a few other old buildings and I managed to snap a few shots as we waited for the crossing light, any pictures that family members are in is mostly fluke (except for Kristen – she was my most willing photo participant…..to a point).

If you look close everyone is in the picture.

By cutting our downtown tour short we did manage to miss rush hour traffic on the way home. We did take a few wrong turns and this enabled us to do a little more sightseeing from the comfort of our vehicle.

Jeff has an innate sense of direction and somehow knows when he’s going east or north or which streets run parallel so he had us on the M1 headed back to the Gold Coast in no time (no thanks to the navigator with the map). Since this is really a ‘rest’ week for us there won’t be a lot to report on – however, if you need to know what is going on in Daegu we are all over it. The Track & Field World Championships in Daegu makes for good neutral t.v. that we can all watch and offer our expert opinions on. For the most part its family friendly, except when Usain Bolt jumped the gun in the 100m finals. Luckily there was no sound but we could all read his lips and he wasn’t saying “Fudge”.
