Sydney Day 1

Steven is filling out his customs card.

Officially in ‘the land down under’! Things I learned from 20 hours of flying:

  • Eating a 4 course supper at 5am is not conducive to sleep
  • Gluteus Maximus (butt muscle) will rebel after extreme sitting
  • You can only watch so much t.v. (unless your name is Bradley and then 15 hours is probably the max).

In a wild and wonderful strange twist of fate (?!) we almost literally ran into Annie, Neil and Lauretta at the airport. If we had been one minute sooner or later we would have missed them. They came to pick up Chrissy (whose flight had been cancelled, then delayed). We all went back to Lauretta’s parents for tea and cookies. We arrived at our Eastwood apartment around 1pm (although it feels like it should be 6pm) and settle in. Grocery shopping is always an adventure when in a different country. We checked out the local Woolworths (grocery store). There is an entire section devoted to Vegemite.

Vegemite in every shape and size.

At least everything is in English, although in this section of town there are a lot of Koreans so signs have all the Asian symbols on them. Since this is the day that never ends (its now 3pm) so we decide to head downtown. We saw the iconic Sydney Opera House (which is larger than it seems on movies) and the Harbour Bay Bridge….which is also extremely large. We could see little, tiny people on top who were doing the bridge climb. By 6pm the kids were grumpy, Steven was stumbing around and we feared he would end up in the drink and it was c-c-cold. It had dropped to about 11 degrees. We fell into bed around 7pm and didn’t wake till 7am. CB
